Product Overview

Shank-mounted flap wheels consist of overlapping abrasive cloth flaps arranged radially and bonded with resin around a metal shank. This small coated abrasive tool is highly flexible and designed for complex profiles, deep bores, internal walls and difficult corners. Diameters range from 10 to 80 mm, approximately 3/8″-3″, for electric rotary tools, pneumatic grinders and drill presses. Applications include metalworking, mold manufacturing, automotive repairs and hardware production.

Selection Guide

Check dimensions: select an outside diameter of 10-80 mm and a shank diameter of 3 or 6 mm to match the tool and its collet.

Choose grit size for the application:

Coarse grinding (40#-60#): heavy stock removal, deburring, rust removal and rapid dressing

Intermediate grinding (80#-120#): general grinding, surface finishing and weld-mark removal

Fine grinding (150#-240#): fine polishing and surface finishing

Extra-fine grinding (320#-600#): mirror polishing and precision surface finishing

Choose the abrasive type:

Brown fused alumina (A): economical, general-purpose abrasive for carbon steel, iron and wood

Zirconia alumina (ZA): longer-lasting abrasive for heavy-duty grinding of stainless and alloy steels

Safe Use Instructions

Ensure the wheel's maximum rated speed is at least equal to the tool speed and mount it correctly. Never exceed its speed rating.

Wear protective goggles, a face shield, a dust mask and protective gloves to protect against dust inhalation and flying debris.

After mounting, perform a no-load test inside the guard for at least 1 minute. Check for unusual vibration or noise.

Before use, inspect the flap wheel for missing or damaged flaps and moisture damage. Do not use damaged wheels.

Use even, moderate pressure to prevent damage to the flap wheel or workpiece. Do not grind with the end face of the flap wheel.

Replace heavily worn wheels promptly to prevent the shank from scratching the workpiece.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place. Moisture can reduce adhesive strength.

Avoid direct sunlight to prevent adhesive aging.

Store flat and avoid heavy pressure that could deform the flaps.

For long-term storage, use sealed packaging to keep out dust and moisture.
