About this product

Product Overview

Tabular alumina (TA) is a pure, fully shrunk sintered corundum made without sintering aids such as MgO or B₂O₃. Its main phase is α-Al₂O₃, with large, well-developed tabular crystals and over 99% Al₂O₃. Rapid sintering at 1925℃, just below the 2050℃ melting point of α-Al₂O₃, produces fully recrystallized plate-like grains with numerous rounded, closed pores within and between crystals.

Sized aggregate grades include 0-1, 1-3, 3-5 and 5-8 mm; fine powder grades include 200# and 325#. Other specifications can be customized.

Use and Storage Recommendations

1. Combine sized aggregate and fine powder

In refractory castables, aggregate forms the structural skeleton and fine powder fills the matrix voids. Select a suitable grading according to the formulation.

2. Storage Conditions

Store in a dry, ventilated place away from moisture and corrosive substances such as acids and alkalis. Do not exceed the specified stacking height to prevent packaging damage.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does tabular alumina differ from white and brown fused alumina?

Tabular alumina is sintered at high temperature to form plate-like crystals with closed pores, providing excellent thermal shock and volume stability. White and brown fused alumina are made by arc melting. Tabular alumina is relatively more expensive, but its performance is better suited to premium refractory applications.

What is the difference between tabular alumina aggregate and fine powder?

Sized aggregate (0-1 to 5-8 mm) forms the refractory skeleton; fine powder (200#-0 and 325#-0) fills the matrix. Combining them can optimize density and performance.

Can the product be used in high-temperature steelmaking environments?
