Guide to Cutting Wheels
A practical introduction to wheel selection, safe setup and the operating checks that support consistent cutting performance.
Cutting wheels are engineered for specific materials, machines and operating speeds. The wheel specification, diameter and thickness should be selected together with the workpiece and the cut required.
Check the application first
Confirm the workpiece material, section size, machine type and maximum spindle speed. Use only a wheel whose marked speed is equal to or greater than the machine speed.
Inspect before use
Do not use a wheel that is cracked, damaged, wet or past the manufacturer recommended storage period. Confirm that guards, flanges and mounting hardware are correct for the machine.
Operate with control
Allow the wheel to reach full speed in a guarded position, keep the cut straight and avoid excessive side pressure. Personal protective equipment and the machine manufacturer instructions remain essential.
