Practical Details for Grinding Wheel Use

Key checks for mounting, storage and controlled operation of resin bonded cutting and grinding wheels.

Practical Details for Grinding Wheel Use

Grinding wheel performance depends on correct storage, mounting and operating technique as much as the abrasive specification itself.

Storage and inspection

Keep wheels dry, protected from impact and organized so stock can be used in date order. Inspect each wheel and its label before mounting.

Mounting

Use clean, matching flanges and the correct bore. Do not force a wheel onto the spindle or overtighten the retaining nut. The guard must be in place before the machine is started.

During operation

Use the wheel only for its intended cutting or grinding action. Apply steady pressure, avoid twisting in a cut and stop if unusual vibration, noise or damage appears.
