Field Test Report: CCWX 180×6 Grinding Disc Performance on 45# Steel

Bodan Abrasives recently completed a comprehensive field test on its CCWX 180×6×22.2 mm resin grinding disc, specifically targeting high-load applications in shipbuilding, steel structure fabrication, and heavy machinery processing. The test aimed to evaluate cutting efficiency, wear rate, and overall stability under continuous operational conditions.

Test Conditions and Methodology

The field test was conducted on different dates across three separate rounds. Each round involved 10 minutes of continuous grinding on a 45# steel plate. The testing utilized a 2600W brushless angle grinder at a speed of 8400 rpm.

Key Test Parameters:

  • Product: CCWX 180×6×22.2 mm Resin Grinding Disc

  • Measured Disc Thickness: 6.1–6.2 mm

  • Workpiece: 45# Steel Plate

  • Equipment: Leilun 180 mm Brushless Angle Grinder (2600 W, 8400 rpm)

  • Test Duration: 10 minutes per round

Key Findings from the Data

1. High Material Removal Efficiency
Over the three 10-minute tests, the workpiece weight loss reached 361 g, 381 g, and 410 g, respectively. This averages approximately 384 g of steel removed per 10 minutes. For heavy-duty processes like weld reinforcement removal and beveling, this translates to significant operational efficiency.

2. Customer Satisfaction Achieved Through Iterative Adjustments
Because real-world grinding involves variations in operator pressure and angle, testing was spread across different dates. Samples 1 and 2 showed stable performance under normal pressure, achieving good grinding ratios of 10.61 and 10.29. Following two targeted adjustments based on the customer’s specific field requirements (Sample 3), the disc removed up to 410 g of steel in a single round under heavier loads. The final batch passed on-site verification and met the customer's satisfaction standards.

3. Stability Under Heavy-Duty Conditions
Throughout the test, the 2600W angle grinder operated at 8400 rpm. No abnormal vibration or disc breakage was observed during the continuous grinding process.

Application Scenarios for CCWX 180×6 Discs

The CCWX 180×6 grinding disc is engineered for high-demand metal grinding applications, including:

  • Weld reinforcement removal and steel plate dressing in shipbuilding.

  • Weld grinding for steel structures, bridges, and heavy equipment.

  • Beveling, deburring, and surface treatment of carbon steel and similar metals.

  • Maintenance and manufacturing scenarios requiring high material removal efficiency.

Conclusion

This field test was conducted on 45# steel under specific continuous grinding conditions. The results show that the CCWX 180×6 grinding disc delivered consistent material removal rates and stable grinding ratios. From initial sampling to two rounds of adjustments, Bodan Abrasives aligned its product with the customer's real-world grinding habits, ultimately delivering a satisfactory solution.
